Fitness Center Policies Agreement

Eckstein Hall is the home of Marquette University Law School (“Law School”) and a part of the larger Marquette University Community (“University”). One of the many excellent facilities in Eckstein Hall is the Fitness Center located on the fourth floor. The Fitness Center includes a Workout Room, locker/shower facilities (“Locker Room”), and an Exercise Room where fitness classes are taught. The Fitness Center exists to promote the health and wellness of students and employees of the Law School. To ensure the health and safety of all Fitness Center guests and the quality of all Fitness Center equipment, the Law School requires that all potential users read and agree to all conditions listed in the Eckstein Hall Fitness Center User Agreement.

Fitness Center Monitoring

Although Marquette University Public Safety and other Law Schools employees may periodically monitor the Fitness Center, no Marquette employee will provide full-time monitoring of the Fitness Center.

All users must be aware of the following:

  1. Their personal health condition,
  2. Their capacity to physically handle any fitness activities in which they participate,
  3. The Fitness Center’s Public Safety Notification Button,
  4. Any signage or notifications placed on Fitness Center equipment or walls, and
  5. Any other announcements or notifications provided by the University or the Law School regarding the Fitness Center

Hours of Use

  1. The Fitness Center will open at the time Eckstein Hall opens.
  2. The Fitness Center will close 30 minutes prior to the time Eckstein Hall closes.  
  3. The Fitness Center may close periodically for maintenance or other programs, and access may be limited accordingly.

Eligible Fitness Center Users

  1. Current Law School students are eligible to use the Fitness Center if they have a valid University Student ID and have read and accepted the Eckstein Hall Fitness Center User Agreement
  2. Current Law School employees are eligible if they have a valid University Employee ID and have read and accepted the Eckstein Hall Fitness Center User Agreement.
  3. Only current Law School students and employees can be Eligible Users.
  4. Only Eligible Users may enter the Fitness Center.
  5. Eligible Users may not bring visitors or guests to use the Fitness Center.
  6. A validated ID card must be scanned at the entrance to enter the Fitness Center.
  7. ID CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE.
  8. Eligible users who forget their ID cards will not be admitted to the Fitness Center.

Behavior and Personal Safety

  1. Eligible Users are expected to display acceptable social behavior while using the Fitness Center.
  2. Not all rules are posted. If Marquette University employees ask for your cooperation, please adjust your behavior and make a recommendation to the Director of Student Affairs at a later date for changes you feel might be necessary.
  3. All Marquette University employees reserve the right to take whatever action is necessary to preserve the safety and integrity of the Fitness Center and its programs by demanding adherence to all University policies and the Law School’s standards.
  4. Please help maintain a secure environment by watching your valuables carefully, and notifying staff if you see something that may be a cause for concern.
  5. When using the Fitness Center please consider your own health history, seek counsel from your health provider, and use common sense.
  6. In case of an accident or illness, activate the red, emergency button immediately.
  7. Participation is at your own personal risk.

Locker Room Use

  1. The Locker Rooms and lockers are to be used by Eligible Users only.
  2. Please report any problems with the condition of the Locker Rooms or other parts of the Fitness Center to the Eckstein Hall Building Manager or the Director of Student Affairs.
  3. Locker Room lockers are to be used only while the Eligible User is in the Fitness Center, engaged in reasonable fitness-related activities. Any materials left in the Locker Room lockers will be discarded at the end of Fitness Center operations each day.
  4. A towel service is not provided in the Fitness Center.
  5. Shower shoes are suggested for use in the Shower Room.

Food/Beverage/Alcohol/ Tobacco/Drug Use

  1. Food and beverages are allowed in clearly designated areas only and never on any equipment.
  2. No glass or metal containers are allowed in the Fitness Center.
  3. Beverages in plastic containers, with re-sealable caps, are allowed in the Fitness Center.
  4. All tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and narcotics are prohibited in the Fitness Center.
  5. Gum should be thrown away before entering the Fitness Center.

Clothing & Footwear

  1. For safety reasons, jewelry should not be worn during any activity in the Fitness Center.
  2. Appropriate athletic attire, such as footwear, T-shirts, shorts, warm-up suits, sweat suits, or aerobic clothing, is required at all times in the Fitness Center. Open toed shoes are not allowed. Bare skin contact with weight benches or chairs is not permitted.
  3. All clothing must meet public decency standards.

Music

  1. Headphones should be used when listening to your personal music or other media while working out. Broadcasting music or other media through speakers is prohibited. 

Advertising and Publicity

  1. Flyers or posters should not be posted without the express permission of the Director of Student Affairs.

Lost and Found

  1. The University and the Law School are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
  2. Participants are encouraged to store all personal belongings securely in lockers in the Locker Room.
  3. Found items should be turned in to Law School’s Lost and Found located in the Student Services Office, Room 238.
  4. Periodic disposal of found items will occur at the discretion of Law School employees responsible for such.

Video Monitoring

  1. For your safety and security, video monitors are located in the Fitness Center.

Cardio Equipment

  1. Proper usage as determined and designed by the manufacturer is required.
  2. Please wipe down equipment after every use with the cleaning solution and paper towels provided in the Fitness Center.
  3. No personal items are allowed in this area unless they are stored in the lockers provided for your convenience.
  4. If machine fails to operate correctly, do not attempt to repair. Notify the Building Manager or the Director of Student Affairs of the problem. An online form is available on the Law School website.
  5. There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardiovascular equipment when others are waiting to use the equipment.

Weight Equipment

  1. Use appropriate weights and settings on the weight equipment to match your ability.
  2. Do not drop weights or allow loud collisions of weight machine plates.
  3. Stack weights properly after use.
  4. If machine fails to operate correctly, do not attempt to repair. Notify the Building Manager or the Director of Student Affairs. An online form is available on the Law School website.
  5. Do not stand or place feet on benches.

Photography/Videography

  1. The intent of this policy is to maintain respect for all by preventing pictures without their consent.
  2. Individuals wishing to take pictures or use a video tape recorder in the Fitness Center must have approval from Director of Student Affairs.
  3. The University and the Law School reserves the right to have the recordings made in the Fitness Center removed from all viewing formats if it is determined that the interests of others are being infringed.

Violations of Standards Constitutes Misconduct

  1. The violation of the standards of conduct under this policy constitutes misconduct and may be grounds for disciplinary action or revocation of the privilege of using the Fitness Center or both.
